About Wolfhouse — A 1949 Philip Johnson House for Contemporary Art in Newburgh, New York

image

Wolfhouse is a house for contemporary art and culture, set within a landmark residence designed by Philip Johnson in 1949 and commissioned by Ruth Wolf.

Perched above the Hudson River in Newburgh, New York, the house was built the same year as Johnson’s Glass House and remained privately lived in for more than seven decades before opening to the public in 2026. Today, Wolfhouse presents exhibitions, dinners, talks, performances, and other interdisciplinary programming throughout the year, bringing contemporary art into the setting of a lived-in home.

Located one hour from New York City, Wolfhouse is the only Philip Johnson house where guests can stay overnight. Its neighbors include Dia Beacon, Storm King Art Center, Magazzino Italian Art, and the historic City of Newburgh, placing the house within one of the country’s most significant cultural landscapes.
